About food tray sleeves

The tray and its film lid handle food contact, and the sleeve carries the branding, so you can use one plain tray across your whole range and change only the sleeve per recipe. This is different from our Tray & Sleeve Boxes, where the tray itself is paperboard.

A food tray sleeve is a printed card sleeve that slides over a ready-meal or takeaway tray. The tray can stay a plain, low-cost one, while the sleeve carries the brand, product name, ingredients, cooking instructions and barcode.

Producers of ready meals, salads, deli items and meal kits use them because the sleeve is the part customers read and the part that makes the product look finished. Measure the outside of the tray including its rim so the sleeve slides on snugly. The sleeve sits around the tray, so it doesn't touch the food.

Frequently asked questions

What is a food tray sleeve?

A printed card sleeve that slides over a ready-meal or food tray. It carries your brand, ingredients, cooking instructions and barcode, so you can use a plain tray underneath.

Can a sleeve fit a tray like a plastic or foil ready-meal tray?

Yes. Measure the outside length, width and height of the tray including the rim, and we'll size the sleeve to slide on snugly.

Does the sleeve touch the food?

No. The sleeve sits around the tray, not on the food. If the pack goes in a microwave or oven, tell us in your quote request and we'll advise on the board.

Can I print nutrition information and barcodes?

Yes. Any text, nutrition panel, QR code or barcode can be printed on the sleeve as part of your artwork.

What's the minimum order quantity for food tray sleeves?

How much do custom food tray sleeves cost?

What are food tray sleeves typically used for?

Common uses include Ready meals, Sushi and salad trays, Meal-prep and deli. If your product doesn't fit one of these categories, our team can still recommend the right style for it.
