About tray & sleeve boxes

The two-piece construction adds a deliberate reveal moment when the tray slides out, which is why it's a common choice for gifting and above-average unit prices.

A tray sleeve box has two parts. A shallow tray holds the product, and a printed sleeve slides over it, a bit like a matchbox. Pulling the tray out of the sleeve makes opening feel like a small reveal, which is why this style is used for gifts and premium products.

Use it when the unboxing is part of the product: confectionery, cosmetics, jewelry, bakery and subscription boxes. The sleeve carries your artwork and the tray keeps the contents in place. Measure the outside of the tray, not the product, so the sleeve slides on smoothly.

Frequently asked questions

What is a tray sleeve?

A tray sleeve is a two-part pack: a shallow tray holds the product, and a printed sleeve slides over it, like a matchbox. The tray slides out for access and the sleeve carries your branding.

Can I use a tray sleeve for food?

Yes. Bakery, confectionery, takeaway and ready-meal trays are common uses. For direct food contact, tell us your food type in the quote request so we can recommend a suitable board and coating.

What size tray sleeve do I need?

Measure the outside of your tray: length, width and height. The sleeve is made slightly larger so it slides on easily. Send a photo with a ruler beside it if you're unsure.

How is a tray sleeve different from a box sleeve?

A box sleeve goes around a box or product you already have. A tray sleeve box is a set: a sliding tray plus the outer sleeve, so the pack opens like a matchbox.

What's the minimum order quantity for tray & sleeve boxes?

The minimum order is 100 units. Pricing improves at higher quantities, with per-unit cost dropping substantially by 1,000 and 5,000 units.

How much do custom tray & sleeve boxes cost?

Around $3.00 per unit at 100 units, dropping to around $0.95 at 5,000 units, for a single-color print on standard board before any finishes. Use the price calculator on this page for an estimate matched to your size, material, and finish.

What are tray & sleeve boxes typically used for?

Common uses include Macarons and confections, Jewelry, Premium cosmetics. If your product doesn't fit one of these categories, our team can still recommend the right style for it.

Do you provide design or dieline support?

Yes - dieline templates and basic design support are included free with your order. You don't need finished artwork to request a quote.
