About slipcase sleeves

Built from thicker, non-collapsible board, a slipcase holds its shape on a shelf the way a folding carton can't, which is why publishers and premium brands use it for keepsake items.

A slipcase is a sturdy case with one open side that an item slides into. It protects what's inside from dust and handling, and it leaves the spine, the front or the edge of the item visible. The board is usually heavier than on an ordinary sleeve, so it feels solid in the hand.

It suits books, box sets, photo albums, stationery sets and limited editions, anything that should feel premium and be kept rather than thrown away. Finishes such as foil stamping and embossing look especially good on a slipcase. Measure the closed item at its thickest point and leave a little room so it slides in and out without catching.

How to measure for slipcase sleeves

How length, width, and height are measured on a boxLengthWidthHeight
  • Measure the closed item at its thickest point, including any wrap or cover already on it.
  • Add 1/16 to 1/8 inch so repeated sliding in and out doesn't wear down the opening.

Frequently asked questions

What is a slipcase?

A slipcase is a rigid case with one open side. The book, box set or product slides in so the spine or front shows. It protects the item and gives it a premium feel.

What is the difference between a slipcase and a box sleeve?

A box sleeve is open at both ends and goes around a box. A slipcase has a closed back and sides with one open edge, so the item is held and protected on more sides. Slipcases are usually made from heavier board.

Can I add foil or embossing to a slipcase?

Yes. Foil stamping, embossing and spot UV are popular on premium slipcases. Select your finishes in the calculator to see the price effect.

What size should my slipcase be?

Measure the thickest point of the closed item and add 1/16 to 1/8 inch so it slides in and out without wearing the opening.

What's the minimum order quantity for slipcase sleeves?

The minimum order is 100 units. Pricing improves at higher quantities, with per-unit cost dropping substantially by 1,000 and 5,000 units.

How much do custom slipcase sleeves cost?

Around $3.00 per unit at 100 units, dropping to around $0.95 at 5,000 units, for a single-color print on standard board before any finishes. Use the price calculator on this page for an estimate matched to your size, material, and finish.
